Dear Jay – Cookery and Bar
Hartley Services Group was proud to be appointed for the transformation of an abandoned building into Dear Jay – Cookery and Bar, a vibrant new café space full of character and charm. This ambitious project involved a complete renovation, turning a derelict structure into a welcoming and functional venue designed to serve as both a bar and a cookery destination.
One of our primary challenges was the installation of a fully operational kitchen at the rear of the building. This included extensive plumbing work for both the kitchen and newly installed bathroom facilities, ensuring the infrastructure met modern commercial standards.
To enhance the natural ambiance of the interior, we introduced two strategically placed skylights that now flood the space with daylight, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the day. The layout was carefully considered to accommodate up to 40 guests comfortably, balancing functionality with a cozy, contemporary design. A standout feature of the space—and one we’re particularly proud of—is the use of reclaimed parquet flooring, which adds both visual interest and a sense of timeless elegance to the environment. This signature design element not only reflects the café’s sustainable ethos but also pays homage to traditional craftsmanship. Every aspect of the project was completed with attention to detail and a commitment to quality, breathing new life into the building while preserving its unique character.
